Description:
97 year old, living legend artist, David Adickes and I have been friends for 16 years and have collaborated on over a dozen paintings as well as a 20' tall sculpture that reads "Pursue Your Passion" that is permanently placed in Missouri City, Texas.
In 2024, I collaborated with David Adickes on this 36"x48" painting, titled "Ode to Adickes".
The style combines an endearing landscape by David and I then added my "Double Entendre" series lettering with a hidden message.
David first created the texture using one of his signature methods; coffee grounds. He then painted trees and a bicycle, popular images in his well known repertoire. I then took the painting into my studio at Sawyer Yards and painted the lettering inversely in my own style of text, leaving the underpainting to create the letters.
I chose each word carefully with the intent of highlighting some of David's unique traits, such as "Sam Houston", "painter" and "jokester". The colors that I used are the same as in the "We Love Houston" sculpture. The hidden message is in purple and reads "We Love Adickes". This painting is a special way for me to honor my good friend and mentor with a work of art that will ideally pass down from generation to generation.
While the original painting is available for acquisition, David and I are offering "limited edition, hand signed" prints. There are two different sizes of prints, ranging from $300-$500 each.
Delivery and installation are included in the greater Houston area. Shipping is a separate cost.
